It’s easy to be connected to the physical world. Look up and see the sky. Bend down and touch the grass. Crane your neck and hear the birds. By being human you are automatically connected into the physical world. Some people are born connected to the psychic world while others need to search for the plug, find the outlet, and make the connection.
Here are some easy steps that will help to make that connection:
1. Make sure there won’t be any distractions (kids, dogs, cell phones) and lay down on the couch. Softly close your eyes. Listen. Listen to the sounds of the fridge, the chirping of the birds, the squeal of traffic. Once you have identified the obvious noises listen for the more subtle sounds. The fish tank in the children’s bedroom, the humming of the air conditioner. Lay there listening until you feel ready to get up. You may choose to lay there for five minutes or fifty minutes. Don’t worry if you fall asleep. That’s a good sign. That means that you were able to really relax.
2. Again, make sure to eliminate any distractions and then sit down in a comfortable chair. This time tune in with your eyes. Notice everything around you. Notice exactly how the furniture is set on the carpet, how a picture is hung on the wall, how toys are spread on the floor. Notice the stillness.
3. Take a pen and paper and sit down somewhere that has a flat writing surface. Write down a question you have. It may have to do with a career move, the start of a relationship, or it may be something simple like what to do for the weekend. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Start by relaxing your forehead then your eyes then your jaw and go all the way down to your feet. Once you are fully relaxed open up your eyes, take the pen and paper and begin writing. Don’t over-analyze it. Don’t re-read what you’ve written. Just keep writing whatever comes to you. You may have a thought that you write down onto the paper or your mind may be blank and your hand is just writing. Try to stay as relaxed as you can. Once you feel complete set the pen back down and read what you’ve written. You may be amazed at how insightful you were!
4. Identify, in the moment, one small thing that would make your life better. It may be to have the car ahead of you switch lanes, to find a quarter on the ground, or perhaps to find a good parking spot. Once you have identified something, ask for it. Simply state, “I want that car to switch lanes” or “I want a good parking spot in front of the grocery store.” Right after making the request imagine that it has happened. Pretend that you see the car moving to the other lane. Visualize the perfect parking spot. See the quarter on the ground.
Remind yourself that psychically connecting does not need to be a difficult process. In fact, tell yourself how easy it is. Try not to let yourself get overwhelmed or feel defeated. Feeling overwhelmed or defeated will only bring overwhelming and defeating situations to you. Be aware of the connections you make, be grateful for the experiences, and let the connection grow stronger and stronger!
Best of luck to you!
